Hedley/Boys Like Girls Concert!

So on March 30th I went to the Hedley/Boys Like Girls concert, and it was awesome! I was originally taking my little sister and her friend to it, but ended up running into two of my friends. My friend Brandy ended up sitting in the row right behind me in the stands, and my friend Skylar ended up sitting in a row on the floor which was right in front of me (our seats were the bottow row of stands which was directly level with the floor)! What a coincidence! lol :) So we took some photos together...then we ended up going to the Lazy Owl (my university's bar) and ended up meeting Paul Digiovanni and John Keefe from Boys Like Girls! awesome night!

New Moon

So I just saw New Moon on thursday and I just loved it! I was so much more impressed with this movie than Twilight. The acting was much better, the CGI was better, and it stuck very close to the book, which I loved! I can't wait for Eclipse to come, I'm already excited! I recommend everyone to go see New Moon!

Star Trek Review

So Star Trek basically told the story of how the main characters came to be and ultimately paves the road to the original series. This movie has a lot of good actors, amazing special effects, was funny, suspenceful, and very entertaining. It also had a few good cameos. Not to mention Chris Pine (Captin Kirk) was very...hot! What makes this movie even better was that you don't need to watch the previous movies or series to understand what was happening!

Over all I'd give this 5 Captin Kirks out of 5. Awesome movie!

Summer!

So it's the first week of June and I'm already getting excited for Summer! It was raining all day but that won't dampen my spirits! It's been over a month since school ended for the summer, and I feel that I've learned a lot about my self and my abilities. I'm already planning new strategies for school in the Fall and I hope to improve ( which, based on first and second semester marks, is happeneing...so I'm happy). I've decided that since my ECMP 355 class is finished, I will use this blog as my personal Blog. I haven't written for quite a whiles so I guess I'll start with an update! For the month of May I was staying at my Mom's house visiting her and my little sister. I had wanted to spend that time not only visiting but relaxing, doing art, yoga, and the many other things I wish I had time for. Instead I ended up working like a dog, and cleaning....so much for that idea. I have since been living at home (my Dad's) and still working like a dog...So update....oh yeah! I saw a lot of local concerts both indie, alternative, punk, and hardcore. I saw a lot of movies..Angels & Demons, Star Trek, 17 again, Up!, and tonight I saw Night at The Museum 2. Speaking of which..I plan on posting very short reviews of the movies I see this summer..I think it would be neat. I also had a lot of bon fires, and hang outs...my car broke down twice...that sucked, and basically just working... yeah not too much. I love the summer though, I end up living off of strawberries, salad, and korn on the cob.....mmmmmm corn on the cob.....lol. I really wanted to go see No Doubt and Paramore(all time favorite band), but couldn't get tickets, and blink 182..again couldnt get tickets..so I have to find some other way to amuse myself. I'm stoked for the Exhibition this year, I love going on the rides! I'm also super excited to go to my family reunion in July. I get to go to B.C for a week, which is one of my favorite places in the World. I haven't been to a family reunion in almost 10 years...and I'm in serious need of a vacation! Well that's all I have to say right now..

...oh yeah! I love Twitter..that is all!

Social Learning Update/ Final ECMP 355 post

Tonight was the last ECMP 355 class. It was a very good and heart warming class filled with pizza, friends, laughs, and reflections. I'm pretty excited and happy that this semester is over and summer is just around the corner. I'm also dissapointed that there won't be anymore ECMP classes because I had a really good time. I learned a lot through out this class and it improved my technology skills. It helped me understand that technology is constantly changing as well as children. Technology is constantly in everyone's lives and should be incorporated more into the classroom and in the learning process. If technology is constantly changing then so should teachers. I also had a great experience working with and learning from others in this class. This class taught me how to network, collaborate, and share ideas with others in and out of my class.

I really enjoyed blogging about this class and the tech tasks. I read a lot of people's blogs, though I didn't always comment on them, and I thought it was really interesting to hear so many opinions and ideas. I liked the fact that we all had to do the same tech tasks, because you could really see the difference between everyone's tasks and it was interesting to see all of the different interpretations and ideas. I found it to be a very good experierence to share things with people and hopefully make a positive influence on people through some of my posts. Some examples of this are: The Zombie March, Free Hugs (located on my google maps post), and The Library Voices Benifit Show. I also loved to comment on everyone's blogs (when I could), and loved reading comments left on my blog posts. My top two favorite tech tasks that I posted was my Master Card video &50 ways to tell a story post #1. I loved these tech tasks because they allowed me to express my self, and they became very personal to me. Both tech tasks ended up being two types of stories about my life and my personality.

Through out this class we also learned how to use various aspects of the internet in our classrooms. For example, Google has many cool applications that could be used, such as: Google Docs for creating forms and quizes, Google Reader for bookmarking blogs and websites, Blogger for creating blogs, Google maps, and many others. We were also shown how to create digital stories using programs like, Animoto, programs to create podcasts, You Tube, Glogger, and many more. We discussed how we could use educational videos in our class room from sites like TED, and K12 Online Conference. All of which can be found through out my blog.

As a major project we were assigned several classrooms to mentor over several weeks. I was partnered up with Colleen Glaude and Donna Fry. Colleen Glaude is a high school teacher in Florida, and Donna Fry is an online teacher based out of Ontario. I found that things went very slowly with e-mailing each other back and forth. It seemed to take forever to accomplish something. Donna wanted me to participate with her class online but the times that she was able to do that conflicted with my schedual so I wasnt able to do anything with her class. I offered to do blogs with her class and comment on their work, but she said that the online school had strict poilcies and I wasn't allowed to do that. Colleen sent me a link to a website where her and her class left two videos for me to watch and I was able to comment on those. Other than that, I wasn't able to do anything more. I think that next time a project like this is attempted, the mentors and the participating class should have a good plan before any mentoring takes place. Other than that I had an alright experience. I read a lot of other people's blogs on their mentoring projects. I especially liked Alex's blog about mentoring with a class from italy and thought her intro video was pretty cool. ( I've hear of all the bands except for "Broken Social Scene", hahaha). I think it would be really cool to mentor a class that is out of our contenent. You can find my Mentorship blog here.

I really enjoyed working on our final projects. At first, I had a really hard time thinking of what I wanted to do for my final project. I couldn't think of a way that technology could be incorporated into visual arts, which is what I plan to teach. Visual arts mainly consists of paper, clay, paint, and pencil (amoung other things). So how could I use technology? Well the idea came to me while I was working on my EAES 201 project, which was to create a canvas painting and document my progress. I started to think in terms of instructional videos and thought that making one for canvas painting would be perfect. After I created this I then thought of more ways that technology could be used in the visual arts class room. I imediately thought of art galleries, and thought "Why not create a digital art gallery?". I then created a second blog called "My Art Blog" which features 3 posts. The first post has my instructional video and discusses how teachers can create videos for their students, and how students can create videos to showcase their knowledge, talent, and even teach their classmates! The other blogs discuss how students can post their art on their blogs, evaluate each other's art, give positive feedback, and create journals about their art. I also talk about how students can create art in different media and post it on their blogs, such as: podcasts, photos, poems, journals, and videos. I even included some of my own art as examples. Overall, I loved creating this project and can't wait to incorporate this idea into my own future classroom.

My overall experience in this class is a good one. I learned many new things, and how to use different types of technology and how to incorporate that technology into the classroom. I expanded my network using programs like twitter. I also learned the importance of working together, and sharing ideas. I not only grew as a learner, but I grew as a person as well. I'm normally a quiet person, and for the most part still am, however I feel that I am becoming more comfortable with technology, with people, and with my self. I feel that over the course of my educational career I will grow into a confident and well networked teacher, and I can't wait until that happens! I met alot of people in this class and I hope and am excited to see most of them next semester in my Arts Ed. classes! I feel that this is proven through out my blog. At the beggining of this class I didn't have alot of blog posts other than what I posted for my tech tasks. I was unsure of what to say and afraid to put myself out there. After reading everyone elses blogs, and after getting to know the people in my class, I became more confident in my posts and was able to discuss different aspects of my life and about myself. If it were up to me to grade myself, then I would put more emphasis on my blog, tech tasks, and final project. These areas best show my growth and what I have learned from this course, and not my mentorship project.

Tech Task #13- My Podcast

ok so for Tech Task # 13, we had to create a 1-3 minute podcast. I chose to use the program Audacity to create the audio part of my podcast, and I wasnt able to create a podcast the way Dean wanted me to so I used Windows Movie Maker to play podcast instead. My podcast is a poetry reading of Leda and the Swan by William Butler Yeats. This poem is about greek mythology and how Zeuz (the swan), rapes Leda who later gives birth to non other than Helen of Troy. I've always found greek mythology to be facinating and I was rumaging through my old English 100 anthology and came across this poem. So the content might be wierd but enjoy anyways! oh...and I would rate this poem 14 A...just so you know!

Ted Talk: Tech Task #8

For Tech Task # 8, we had to watch a TED video and discuss it in class. I discussed another one in class but forgot to post it so I am going to talk about another one! I found one called "David Griffin: Photography connects us with the world". The video talked about how great photos can connect everyone around the world. I thought it was very interesting how David spoke of how photography can capture one's emotions and "Flash Bulb Memories" which are vivid memories a person has when experiencing something significant. He talked about how to tell a story through a photo. I also really liked how the photos he showed told a "story" about a curious Leopard Seal that tried to feed live penguins to the photographer (true story!). I really enjoyed this video and I recommend that everyone should watch it!

We were also asked to reflect on another classmates recommended video. I chose to do a reflection on Jamias Cascio: Tools for Building a Better World that was recommened by Erika.
This video talked about the changes we can make within the world to "fix the world". He talked about "Earth Witness" which is a proposal that will show people what they are doing wrong and what they can do better in order to save our world. He says that we can't wait for someone or something to come and save us, we need to take action ourselves. Here is the video!

Google Reader

For Tech Task #3 we were supposed to create a google reader account and add several blogs, and our classmates blogs to it as "Subscriptions". "Google Reader is a tool for gathering, reading, and sharing blogs and websites you find on the web." To subscribe to a blog or website, Google Reader uses RSS feeds. RSS feeds are like files that contain the blog or website that also let you know when something new happens with that blog or website through Google Reader. The RSS feed can be located as a button somewhere on the blog or website. I found this tool to be very useful by keeping me up to date on the blogs and websites that I have subscribed to. I have also included a screen shot of my Google Reader account!

ok so this is my second video, and I used the web site www.animoto.com . The video is a 30 second video of my grad, I used photos of my grad because I don't really have any new photos that could tell a story (my old camera sucked). Thank goodness I just bought a new camera (sony cybershot) and I love it! ok so for tech task # 11 we had to use two sites to tell a story using images and music. I chose to use http://www.glogster.com/ for my first story. Glogster is basically an online scrap book and is very addicting! This story basically gives you some information about me, kinda like an autobiography of myself. It starts with graduating high school, and shows pictures of my friends and family. It also shows some of the things that I am interested in such as music, art, and Volunteering (The Zombie March video).It also shows a picture of Brand X Productions which is a production agency that I was apart of (along with my friends) that promoted local concerts in Regina. Mentorship project

So for ECMP 355, we were required to participate in a mentor ship project. I was paired up with teachers Colleen Glaude and Donna Fry.

Colleen Glaude has been an educator for 18 years. The first 5 years of her career was spent teaching middle school math in Maine, she spent 2 more years as a High School math/physics teacher in a parochial school in South Carolina, and the last 11 years at CHS in Pensacola, Florida teaching Math teacher and as a Technology Coordinator. Donna Fry teaches two sections of Grade 9 Geography of Canada (one applied, one academic), Grade 11 Travel and Tourism, Grade 10 Learning Strategies, and Grade 12 University Preparation Earth and Space Science on a fully online public secondary school with over 1000 students in Ontario. The name of the school is The Virtual Learning Centre and their webpage is vlc.virtuallearning.ca.

During the last few weeks Colleen had sent several e-mails to me and I to her. She sent me a link to a website where I would watch podcasts and videos done by her and her class. The first video was an introduction to her class and was very interesting to see! Her students seemed very talented and were very impressive when it comes to technology. I wasn't aware, at the time, that you couldn't comment on the videos so I didn't leave a comment on this one. After this video I was sent a google document, however, it was sent to my hotmail address so I wasn't able to open the document. I e-mailed Colleen back asking her to resend the document to my Gmail account but never got it. I was then recently sent another link to see a second video and was asked to make a comment about it. The second video was more of a podcast called "Knightly News", and had the students act as reporters and report on various events happening in the school. I thought it was a really neat idea and I left a comment on for the video. The website for the videos can be found here: http://drop.io/pchsmentors/. I was also told to view and comment a third video that hasn't been posted live yet, but the link to the website wouldn't work. Other than the three videos, nothing else has happend in this mentorship process. I feel that, had things not taken so long to plan, this mentor ship experience would have been really interesting. I thought that Colleen's class was very interesting and even I would like to take a class like that!

Donna Fry had also sent several e-mails to me during the last several weeks. Our messages took very long to get to each other because apparently my e-mails kept getting sent to her junk mail. So unfortunatly not alot happened with this mentorship project. Donna had alot of neat ideas for me to participate with her class and all of which was only if I could attend an on-line session during one of her classes. Again it was unfortunate that nothing became of this because the on-line classes and my personal time/classes had various schedualing conflicts. I think that this would have been a very neat experience to talk with other on-line students. I wish that things would have turned out differently.

I didn't really have anything to write about until now because things didn't really start happening (Colleen's class) until recently. I think that overall this was a very unique experience and, had things gone differently, I would have gained alot of experience working with kids. I think that things would have gone better if we had a better time schedual and had concrete plans to work with. I think it would be a good idea to use mentoring with my future students.

The Library Voices Show

So I went to the show that night and it was amazing! There was another show in the club, which is another room attached to the exchange. The other show was a punk rock show that featured Things Change (Regina) amoung others. This show was free of charge and planned their sets so that you could see almost all of the bands! During the Library Voices' set they released a tone of balloons, and tinsle from the ceiling onto the audience and it was quite a site! They got the entire audience literally dancing and put on a very cool set. I even saw a few of my ECMP 355, and EAES 201 peers there as well! I was only able to get a few pictures: one of The Emerson Letters (Matt Goud), one of Andy Shauf, and one of Library Voices. I recommed that everyone should go see Library Voices and everyone else that played the next time they have a show!

The Zombie March in Regina

Ok, so If you haven't heard of it yet, The Zombie March is a march where you dress up as a zombie and march down Albert street to raise food for the food bank. The first Zombie March happened in October 2008, and there will be another march this year too! The Zombie March for 2009 will be held on Friday, October 9th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Everyone will march, as zombies, down Albert st. from the Legislative building to Victoria park and back. I participated in this event last year to raise food for the food bank, and let me tell you, it was a blast! I even won a prize (coupons for the movie theatre)! It's free to join the march all you have to do is dress up and bring food! I know this isnt until October but I saw an event notice on facebook and couldn't resist! A Really Great Indie Show!

On March 27, 2009, There will be a great Indie show featuring Library Voices (Regina), Volcanoless In Canada (Saskatoon), Andy Shauf (Regina), and Matt Goud (The Emerson Letters) (Regina). The show will be held at The Exchange on 2431 8th ave, the doors will open at 8:00 pm, and tickets will be sold at the door for $15.00. While on tour in Vancouver, Library Voices were robbed of $10,000 worth of instruments and equipment. This show is then to act as a fundraiser to help the Regina based band replace their instruments. So come out and enjoy some amazing local bands and help support part of the Regina music scene! For Tech Task #12 we were asked to find a video that incorporated the elements of a good movie like shots, angles, and production value. I chose to post a music video by the band Rise Against called "Ready To Fall". This video has a lot of good angles and shots through out. The video is kind of like a protest to animal cruelty, violence, and pollution. I really liked this video and the message it tried to get across, this song, as well as the band, and I have included the lyrics below the video. My Little Sister's Cheer Competition

On Saturday, February 28, 2009, the University of Regina and the U of R Recreation Services Sports Club hosted the University of Regina Cheerleading Competition or the URCC in the University Gym which was also presented by “Track & Trail”. The cheerleading competition began promptly at 12:00 pm and finished just after 4:30 pm. The competition schedule featured cheer teams from all over Saskatchewan and some of Manitoba, and consisted mainly of elementary schools, high schools, and private cheer teams. There were three different types of competitive areas to be judged such as jump, pom, and cheers that include stunts. Jump is a type of competition where solo competitors from different teams or squads perform various jumps to the best of their ability. Pom is a type of cheer where teams use pompoms and perform their own choreographed dances. The third type of competition combines choreographed dances, stunts, jumps, flips, and or pompoms. All competitions use a combination of various mixed songs and cheers that are shouted by the team. The URCC was judged by two panels of certified Saskatchewan Cheerleading Association judges that use SCA rules and score sheets. There was one set of judges for the jump competitions and another set of judges for the rest of the competition. The competition schedule was also composed of 55 different cheers by many different schools and teams. There were several cheer demos through out the cheer competition by different cheer teams and by the U of R Cheer Team. The reason that I attended the cheer competition was because my younger sister was competing as part of the Henry Janzen Elementary School cheerleading team.

The Henry Janzen cheer routine was a mix of pom and stunts, and my sister performed mostly pom and dancing. There were several “demos” that featured some of the audience members, and several contests for prizes that were going on in between the cheer teams to keep the audience engaged. The dances, cheers, and stunts were very interesting to watch. Some of the cheer routines were very unique and featured some very neat costumes, creative dances, and impressive stunts. Other routines were very similar to each other and not very original. All routines, however, were very well done with minimal accidents while performing stunts. The general atmosphere of the competition was pulsing with energy and excitement. All the mothers and fathers were cheering and whistling for their children. Cameras were flashing every ten seconds, and everyone was generally happy.

The entire competition captured my attention so that I found it hard to look away. I was extremely impressed with all of the cheer teams and their routines, and some of the cheer teams incorporated music, and scenes from movies in their routines. I found it quite amusing that one team incorporated “The Jokers” smile and the line “Why so serious?” from the movie called “The Dark Knight” at the end of their routine. When I finally got to see my sister’s team a wave of pride and awe washed over me. I was very proud and happy to see my sister as part of a team and happy to be cheerleading. I ended up taking a lot of pictures and a short video as well. After seeing this competition I gained a new perspective about cheerleading. I was never really interested in cheerleading as a child and never knew a lot about it. This competition opened my eyes to how intense cheerleading is, and it made me realise how much practice, dedication, and hard work it takes to cheerlead or even coach cheerleading. (My sister is on the right).

I created this for tech task #10. The point to this picture is to have 4 photos in one slide to describe me or to "sell me". I chose a picture of my self to show that I am always growing as a person, I chose a picture of art supplies to show my love of art and I like to express myself, I chose a picture of books to show my love of learning, reading, and to symbolize Life long learning, and finally I chose a picture of a live concert to show my love of music, and experiencing new things and sharing them with others. K12 Online Conference 2008 | Prove It “We Like Our Blogging Buddies: The Write Stuff with Blogging Mentors”

So I watched this video on Blogging buddies and I found it to be very interesting. The video starts out with a teacher interviewing various students asking them what they linked and disliked about blogging. Most students replied that they enjoyed blogging because it helped them become better spellers, and it was easier than writing. Blogging in the classroom allowed the children to communicate with each , and get feed back from pre- service teachers on their writing which is what our ECMP 355 class is going to be doing. The video talked about how the pre-service teachers had to learn to read "Inventive writing", and how having blogging buddies motivated the children to write and to use good grammar and spelling. After watching this video I am now very excited to start the mentorship project!

After looking at all the different applications on this web page, I found quite a lot of them to be very useful when thinking of ways to use them in the classroom. The search applications could all be used by students when preparing essays, research projects, and various other projects that require researching. The search category includes many forms of searching such as "book search", "geo education", "news", "igoogle", and "web search". Another application category is "Communication, show, & share". This category includes applications such as "blogger", "calendar", "docs", "groups", "Page creator", "picasa", "sketchUp", and "google apps". I found that with blogger, the students can create their own online journals for recording their thoughts and responses on projects, docs is a great way to create polls and surveys for the students as well as exams and quizes. Groups is another great application because it allows the teacher to have online lessons like Ecmp 355. I found these applications to be a good way to teacher children and can deffinatly see my self useing them in the future.

This is my igoogle page, I wasn't able to take a screen shot so here is the link instead. i have included various widgets like facebook, "See before you die"-place of the day, "My del.icio.us", copter game, google reader, horoscopes, quotes of the day, live weather, g-mail, and you tube. most of my widgets are for the Ecmp 355 class, and the others are for my enjoyment (copter game). I think the igoogle page will come in handy for my future career because it will have important and useful information at my finger tips. I can also see my self using this website because it keeps the things I like to view on the web organized and in easy access. I reccomend that everyone should have one!

First Computer Education Online Experience (better late than never!)

On January 14 2009, I had my first online class experience. I have never had an online class before and i found it to be quite enjoyable! My 18 class mates and I participated in an interactive online chat with Prof. Dean Shareski and Chris Betcher (sp?) from Australia about the uses of the web site "Delicious". "Delicious" is a web site that saves links on the Internet. I found this web site to be very useful and I now use it all the time! I look forward to all of the next classes and find all the discussions to be very interesting! I don't have a lot of experience with technology in terms of this class but I think after having taken this class (as well as Computer Science 100!) I will feel confident in my technology skills!
